We were blessed with some superb weather for our end of season Club Competitions finals .. and some mighty fine games too! Thanks to everyone who contributed in some shape or form .. it was a real team effort and it really couldn’t have gone much better. Here’s how the drama unfolded ..
Women’s Handicap – Karen bt JenB
The Women’s Handicap matched up two previous Women’s champions, from 2023 and 2024. JenB got off to a quick start but was caught by Karen. The game remained nip and tuck until Karen closed it out.
Women’s Pairs – Anita & Lynda bt JenC & Linda
This game was always going to be won by a Lynda .. of some flavour! In the first of two very long games approaching 3hrs, it was decided on a tense last end where shot wood changed hands a few times.
Presidents Plate – Mike/Sandy/Verena bt Don/Martin/Peter
In the second marathon game of the morning of around 3hrs it just goes to show you should never give up. The winners (including last year’s winner Verena) scored 9 shots on the last 4 ends to take the game by a single shot, and a first trophy for Mike!
Presidents Cup – NeilF bt Colin
An intriguing match-up between two players who’ve really stepped up their game over the last year or so. Once Neil got his nose ahead he kept scoring, even when not holding shot .. a perfect way to play 75pts and Neil’s first singles trophy!
Mixed 2-woods Singles – Martin bt Karen
Carrying over their good form in the 2-woods day back in June, this game was decided over the last couple of ends by Martin who won his first trophy as a Sunbury player!
Junior Championship – Mike bt Wade
In the battle of two fairly new bowlers it was a relentless Mike who kept up the pressure after a close first half to the game.
Open Handicap – Colin bt Peter
After a close first half to the game, defending champion Colin powered through to retain the trophy.
Women’s 2-woods – Karen bt JenB
Day two started with a familiar pattern – JenB taking an early lead against Karen who, again, came back to take the game and trophy from defending champion Jen.
Mixed 2-woods Pairs – Anita & Roger bt Andrew & Barry
In a very entertaining game that went to an extra end it was won by veteran Roger, picking up his first trophy for six years, alongside an emotional Anita.
Men’s Handicap – Mike bt Colin
In a game contested between opponents who’ve had to play each over the course of the season more times than most, it was Mike who got over the line this time, and with it, an impressive third trophy of the weekend!
Men’s Pairs – Keith & Neil bt Martin & Simon
Defending champion Keith and in-form Neil put on an impressive performance taking an early lead which they never relinquished.
Men’s 2-woods – Alan bt Mike
Alan stopped the Mike bandwagon thanks to some borrowed shoes (thanks Barry!).
Men’s Championship – Martin bt Colin
Despite going 9 shots behind (there’s a theme there .. see next game!), Colin put up a valiant effort to get back in the game but it was Martin, the man from Hampton but very much one of our own now, who carried it through!
Women’s Championship – Anita bt Karen
In yet another high-quality championship final, Anita came back from 9 shots down to cross the line with a nervy couple of shots to spare to crown a hat-trick of Championship wins!
