Car park resurfacing

We’ve been informed that the car park is having another large area being resurfaced on Monday 13th. The whole car park will be closed on that day – members are asked to park outside the car park and walk in on the designated path.
The next in our Winter social programme is an evening of Slippery Ann on Tuesday 7th. A variation on Hearts or Black Lady – Alan Cordery will be leading the event with everyone welcome from 7:30pm.

Spring into life

Spring is nearly here and work on the green and surrounds is ramping up. The next bit of work is planned for Sunday 1pm with rolling & cutting of the green .. and much more – any help welcome.

The calendar is taking shape and can be viewed here Calendar 2023. Please treat the dates as provisional for the time being.

After a highly competitive night of skittles a couple of weeks ago, the next social is Tues 7th March with an evening of cards. It kicks off at 7:30pm .. everyone welcome.

A new club shirt

Our Treasurer Barry has been busy working on a new shirt design and here it is, freshly approved by Middlesex Bowls.

The club shirt currently has two different designs and we are now moving forward to a third one. It creates a more unique club identity for match play and is also an opportunity to change our badge to recognise the sun in Sunbury .. our current badge with crossed shepherd crooks is Shepperton’s emblem!

Prices have been increasing since we last stocked up and the new shirts cost £29 but early orders will receive a discount. Please contact Barry if you wish to order one – he’s happy to discuss sizes (see chart below) and will be at next week’s social. He aims to get an initial order in asap.

PS: Middlesex county have adopted navy blue trousers/shorts and are encouraging us all to embrace the colour at local club and county level. Whites and greys will undoubtedly be around for some time to come but we don’t advise anyone purchasing new white/grey bottoms from now on.

First cut

The green received its first cut of the year on Saturday. The slightly depleted green team of Dennis, David and Brian did a grand job .. probably the first of around 50 cuts over the season!

We may have had some changeable weather recently but one thing is guaranteed – more daylight every day .. we’re up to 3 mins extra per day at the moment (up from 1 min at the start of the year). It’ll soon be time for bowls but before that we have our February social on Tues 7th at 7:30pm .. a night of skittles. All are welcome.

Team Spirit

Team Spirit were the winning quiz team at the latest winter social on Tuesday. Congratulations to Alison, Diane, Karen, Rose, David & Cassie, who finished a few points ahead of the chasing pack, all separated by a single point. Gary did another superb job as compere ably assisted by his wife Katie. There was a surprise cake presented to myself and thank goodness everyone had a piece otherwise it’d still be here at Easter!

Our next social is on Tues 7th Feb. After that we’ll be moving closer to the start of the 2023 season with dates published and perhaps even a new club shirt .. watch this space!

Big Quiz 2023

The main club remains open during the festive period – see opening hours below. We’ll then kick off the New Year with a Quiz Night on Tues 10th Jan. Back by popular demand will be quizmaster and compere Gary, but be warned there will be some age-appropriate questions in honour of a certain someone who will be celebrating their last night in their 50’s! The person in question was born during the Big Freeze of 1963, which by all accounts was somewhat colder than the one we experienced last week. Happy Christmas everyone and look forward to seeing you all in 2023.

That’s it for 2022!

We ended the year with a winter/xmas social on Tues 6th with a miss mash of games and quizzes. Big thanks to Nikki for organising the evening and all the other helpers. The next date for your diary is Tues 10th Jan, although activities continue at the club with football broadcast most nights and an informal get together most Friday nights from 6pm .. all welcome.

Happy Christmas everyone!
