New Year Quiz – 11Jan

Our first social of the year is on 11th January at 7:30pm – Quiz Night!

All are welcome including family and friends but please do a lateral flow test, where possible, beforehand.

For those of you missing out on bowls, the BBC will be televising the World Indoor Bowls Championships from 7-23Jan. It’ll also be streamed live on YouTube.

A new patio for the New Year

Some news on a new patio being built on the cricket-pitch side of the club ..
Hi all
The NEW PATIO which goes from the front of the Squash/Weights entrance to the corner of the building starts on Monday 20th Dec.
We will ask the contractor to make sure there is a safe path to the front entrance for Weights & Squash.
Re:Bowls, as the work is on the field side of the club it wont really affect the bowls entrance to green or clubhouse, but please advise your members about it happening and to be aware and careful.
Thanks
Dave, Sunbury Cricket

Christmas social

Our last event of the year is on Tuesday 7th at 7:30pm.

Please come and enjoy an evening of party games and quiz – prizes are up for grabs as well as a raffle.

Any Christmas cakes ordered through Nikki will also be available for collection.

Everyone welcome – members, family & friends.

Trophies & prizes 2021

This year’s annual Presentation Luncheon went well with a full complement of trophies presented and even more raffle prizes won! Thanks to all for the arrangements and help on the day. We missed our Club President, Tom, but perhaps not his jokes! We wish him well.

All this year’s winners have had their name(s) added to the trophies (with one exception, oops!) as well as those from the reduced programme we ran in 2020. The Honours Boards have also been updated and will be available for viewing, perhaps in the main hall, in the coming months.

This year’s Club Trophy was awarded to John Nutt for his sterling work on the garden and overall help and support around the club and green.

The Monday Evening league was won by The Firers – Richard Moxon, Barry Frankson, Tony Latchford and Karen & Alan Pilkington,

The Friday Triples league was won by The Swifts – Brian McKone, Bob Levi, Alison Nabil and Eileen & Roger Leatherby.

Our next event is the Xmas social on Tuesday 7th December at 7:30pm – a mix of games and quiz .. all are welcome .. members, friends & family.

A winter cut

The green received a haircut at the weekend, not something it usually gets at this time of year!

Just a reminder that the Sunbury Sports Association AGM takes place at 7:30pm on Thursday 25th. Documents are available but no paper copies will be provided on the night.

Also, before that we have the  Bowls Presentation Luncheon on Friday 19th at 1pm.

AGMs

It’s that time of year – the Annual General Meetings for the main club, Sunbury Sports Association, and Bowls take place this month. All are welcome to hear about the clubs and to raise any points at the Discussion Forum that follows the official proceedings.

A new surface for the car park .. maybe!

Whether you have to drive on it or just walk on it, the car park can be treacherous at the best of times! Please support the efforts to get the car park resurfaced and share as widely as you can in order to support this initiative from the Cricket Club.

Dear Member

We desperately need to get the car park resurfaced. We are applying for a grant from Surrey, but we need your support to prove it’s a real and required project. This will take you 45 seconds if that.

The link below is the “resurface project idea” registered on a Surrey funding website – WE NEED you to please support the project by clicking on the link below and then clicking on the “THUMB’s UP” in bottom right hand corner.
There are 6 simple questions to answer as part of the verification, sorry about that!
Thanks
Dave Smith – Sunbury Cricket Club
Middlesex Competitions
After a fairly successful 2021 with many members progressing deep into the Middlesex draws please consider entering for 2022. David and Cassie have the Men’s and Women’s entry forms for next season’s Middlesex competitions – they have to be completed by end of October so please get in touch asap.

Put to bed

The green was put to bed for another season over the weekend of 2-3 October. It was inevitable that rain curtailed some topdressing but this can wait for a dry spell. The hedges were also cut back during the week.

As they’ve proved popular in previous years, Nikki will be taking orders for homemade Christmas cakes at Tuesday’s social.

One last item of news .. we’ve been informed that the main club will be without power on Thurs 28th October due to some essential electrical work.
