As we gear up for the coming season here are some dates for your diaries. We are also thinking of an informal pre-season dinner at the SSA in Mar-Apr. Please contact a committee member if interested so we can gauge interest.

Improvements around the club

The work on the patio and verandah nears completion whilst work on upgrading the car park is due to commence in February – unfortunately the SSA failed in their bid for a grant so the work will be scaled back to fit the budget.

The Club Hall will also be redecorated in February and volunteers are being sought to help with painting on the following days – Thurs 3rd, Sat 5th and Thurs 10th. Please contact Dave Smith (email – dave54smith@yahoo.com) if you can help anytime between 10am-2pm.

Ex-President David Todd

Some more sad news to report with the passing of David Todd at a local hospice.

David was a valued member at Sunbury for many years being Secretary, Treasurer and President at various times. He was also a stalwart of Middlesex Bowls and represented the county for many years.

He’ll be remembered for many things but personally I can recall him being one of the few true firers of the bowls, with results to match too! RIP David.

Bar staff wanted

Hi Guys – Please pass onto your members – Dave Smith ..

We have some vacancies for weekend bar staff, and work is available now.

We are offering a competitive rate of from £8.50 per hour, according to age, for casual part-time staff to join our young and friendly team behind the bar.

The bar is open on some weekday evenings during the winter and all week during the summer. It is open from midday on Saturdays and Sundays all through the year. We also take bookings for birthday and anniversary parties in our large function room. These are usually on Saturday evenings when extra shifts are required. These occasions can be extremely busy. Staff are expected to commit to regular Saturday and or Sunday afternoon or evening shifts and occasional Friday shifts, midweek shifts are more likely in the summer months. Applicants must show willingness to be available when extra staff are required for large functions and to cover for colleagues.

We welcome applications from both experienced bar staff and those willing to develop a new skill. Training will be provided. Candidates must be 18 or over. They will need to demonstrate high standards of integrity and reliability, accurate operation of our EPOS till system, good interpersonal skills, and cheerfulness under pressure. A confident and friendly manner is essential.

The bar serves real ales, lagers, draught cider, and a wide range of bottled beers, wines and spirits including a selection of gins. We are a friendly and lively club with a bar serving the needs of a predominantly younger membership of cricketers and their families.

We are located 100 meters from the 216 bus stop.

You are invited to circulate this email to friends and family.

Applications with a CV attached (including date of birth) should be addressed to the Bar Management Team at sunburysports@outlook.com

A sad start to the year

We sadly report the death of Terry Aslett who passed away shortly after Christmas. He missed playing bowls over the last two years due to illness and will be fondly remembered for his enthusiasm and commitment to Sunbury Bowls.

His son has informed us that the funeral is planned for Thursday 20th January with a service at Hanworth Crematorium at 3:50pm, followed by refreshments at Little Italy, Thames Street – one of his regular haunts.

RIP Terry.

New Year Quiz – 11Jan

Our first social of the year is on 11th January at 7:30pm – Quiz Night!

All are welcome including family and friends but please do a lateral flow test, where possible, beforehand.

For those of you missing out on bowls, the BBC will be televising the World Indoor Bowls Championships from 7-23Jan. It’ll also be streamed live on YouTube.

A new patio for the New Year

Some news on a new patio being built on the cricket-pitch side of the club ..
Hi all
The NEW PATIO which goes from the front of the Squash/Weights entrance to the corner of the building starts on Monday 20th Dec.
We will ask the contractor to make sure there is a safe path to the front entrance for Weights & Squash.
Re:Bowls, as the work is on the field side of the club it wont really affect the bowls entrance to green or clubhouse, but please advise your members about it happening and to be aware and careful.
Thanks
Dave, Sunbury Cricket
