Close!

After last weekend’s chill, it was a pleasant surprise to welcome some better weather for bowls this latest weekend, although we didn’t really reckon on a heatwave! The games were pretty hot stuff with both played at home. In the SML game against Strawberry Hill on Saturday we had chances going into the final end on a couple of rinks, but in the end we couldn’t add to the win on another rink and recorded an overall 8-2 loss. The match with Hersham on Sunday was reduced to 16 ends in view of the weather but there was no lack of good bowling. Played in true friendly spirit the game was drawn at 63 shots each! Thanks to everyone involved in the games and supporters too. So Sunbury’s wait for a first win of the season carries on but I’m sure we won’t have to wait until June to break our duck – there are 3 more chances before then.

In some county competitions played this week there were some good performances by our Sunbury bowlers against strong opposition with Colin & Karen going closest in their Middlesex Mixed Pairs game at Ashford – they won 11 out of the 18 ends but still lost by 3 shots! There are more chances this week so the best of luck to all concerned.

There is better news in the North West Surrey (NWS)  Thursday leagues with both Sunbury teams, managed by Eileen and Keith, having now registered a first win in division 2.

Friday Triples kicks off in  just under two weeks time on Friday 5th June. The team captains this year are Alison, Colin, Di, Eileen, Nikki & Simon and they will be contacting their squad  of 5-6 players shortly to sort out who plays in the first games. More details about the league and teams are detailed here .. Friday Triples 2026

The draws for our internal Club Competitions have been done – you can see them all here.

Competitions – Men

Competitions – Women

Competitions – Mixed/Open

They’re also available on the website and will be posted on the noticeboards in the summerhouse in due course. Some guidance for those new to competitions will follow.

The first of our all-day club competitions is fast approaching on Sat 6th June – Mixed Pairs 2-woods. This is ran as a series of short games in a swiss-system, so not a knockout. It’s planned to run from 11am to around 4pm. Further details will be provided nearer the date but please get in touch if you’d like to play or can no longer make it. The only caveat is that it’s a pairs competition so we need an even number for it to work so if we end up with an odd number then someone will have to step out.
